Our Team

The SETC Board of Directors is comprised of 7-9 board members that meet on a regular basis via teleconference calls and face-to-face meetings to govern the policies and activities of the track club.

Tasha Simpson

Founder/Board of Directors/Coach

Tasha R. Simpson is the proud wife of Mikel D. Simpson since 2000 and adoring mother of their twins (boy and girl), Mikell and Zamearea Simpson since 2005. She holds a Bachelor of Science Business Education (BSBE) degree in Information Processing / Administrative Services, with a minor in Business. She also holds a Master’s of Science Degree in Management Information Systems (MS) and a 2nd Master’s Degree, Masters of Education, Educational Management Concentration (MEd).

 

She has a great passion for people, and for inspiring, training and developing others. She has over 15 years of leadership experience, specifically as a people leader, and development coach, where she trains, and coaches leadership and professional development. She also has experience as an adjunct professor on a part time / as needed basis. She and her husband Mikel are the founders of Soaring Eagles Track Club, where they work hand-and hand with developing young athletes.

 

Soaring Eagles Track Club is also a sub-sector of Vitality CED LLC (Career, Education and Development) consultant firm that focuses on the growth and development of individuals through custom educational training and development, by utilizing coaching techniques, managing through change, and effective communication, which she is also the founder. As a sub-sector of Vitality CED LLC, she is also the founder of BRIDGE (Building Relationship in Diversity Groups and Ethnicities) mentoring program, VITAL (Vision in Teens Acting in Leadership) leadership development Program which are currently in the works, along with Soaring Eagles Track Club, a 5013C non-profit sports organization.

 

Tasha has over 14 years experience with ministering and developing the youth. She is dedicated to her church and community and plays a huge part in trying to make the community better, particularly in the eyes of our youth. She loves spending time with her family, talking with her sister, spending time with her brothers, and learning as much as she can from the woman she honors the most… her mother, Nellie McNeill. Most of all, she enjoys being a wife and mother along with inspiring others to believe they can do things that they may not have believed that they could do before!!! Mikel Simpson

Founder/Board of Directors/Coach

Mikel Simpson is the husband of Co-Founder Tasha Simpson and the eldest of three siblings. They have 2 children (twins), Mikell & Zamearea Simpson. Mikel is currently studying Web Design and Network Security at Wake Technical Community College. He has over 8 years of coaching experience and over 14 years of ministering and teaching to the youth (ages 5 to 18 years old).

 

Mikel has always had a passion for working with and developing children. When not serving in youth ministry, coaching athletes in basketball and or track, Mikel also volunteers with various non-profit organizations. He works full time in the Insurance Industry as a Commercial Lines Underwriter, however, during his spare time Mikel enjoys spending time with his family, working on cars, coaching basketball, and rooting for the Miami Hurricanes….Go CANES! 🙂

Wayne Harrell

Board of Directors/Coach

Wayne Harrell is a graduate of Fayetteville State University (FSU) with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration. He was a member of the Fayetteville State University Broncos football team as well as a former staff member of the University. Wayne served as a mentor to several young men on campus, while working as admin support assisting and coaching other college students through their college careers, life decisions as well as networking opportunities. Wayne is also a member of Phi beta Sigma Fraternity Inc where he was involved in several community service projects and activities. He participated in events supporting and building awareness around issues within the community as well as on the campus of Fayetteville State University. He was a key factor in several fund-raising events that helped raised funds for FSU’s scholarship endowment fund.


During Wayne’s high school years, he was a contender in the 100, 200, 4×100, and 4×200 in track and field. Wayne currently volunteers as a trainer within his community to help other achieve a healthy life style and positive attitude. Wayne has enjoyed helping other achieve their goals and achievements. Wayne is also active duty in the United State National Guard Army. He currently lives in Clayton, NC with his wife Jerraye, and his son Wayne Bentley along with their dog Lala.

Larry “Sensi” Smith

Coach

Larry “Sensi” Smith is the husband of Alice Smith and the father of two. He is currently a decorated Fifth degree black belt where he spends a lot of his time coaching and training others in the world of Martial Arts. He has been a track and field coach for over 10 years and has a passion for developing children. He is adored by his family and definitely admired by his grandchildren.

Lee Vernon McNeill – 1964-2021

Advisor/Cofounder/Coach

Lee Vernon McNeill served as an Advisor in the building of the foundation of Soaring Eagles Track Club. Lee was a retired track and field athlete from St. Pauls NC who ran professionally for the USA. He was a five-time all-American, record holding sprinter at East Carolina University and an Olympic Gold medalist who specialized in the 100 meters dash and the 4X100 relay. He was on the 1988 Olympic relay team in Soul Korea. On April 18, 2010, Lee Vernon McNeill was one of the six new inductees into the Robeson County Sports Hall of Fame ceremony in Pembroke, North Carolina. Lee was a highly decorated coach of Soaring Eagles Track Club and very well respected until his passing on September 29, 2021. He will greatly be missed.

David Shaw

Advisor/Board of Directors

Coach David Shaw is a graduate of St. Augustine College with over 35 years of Track & Field experience. He has served as Head Coach of various sports, such as track & field (indoor, outdoor events, and cross-country), basketball, and football, where he has won several championships. Coach Shaw has won 26 Conference Championships for girls outdoor track; going undefeated for 25 years with the girls and 22 years undefeated with the boys with 23 Conference Championships. He has won a total of 59 Conference Championships with both boys and girls outdoor track and 7 Cross-Country championships in 12 years with both. He has trained athletes of all ages with 19 individual State Championship wins for both indoor and outdoor track. Coach Shaw has coached and trained individuals that have participated in the Olympics, who have earned their Olympic trial tickets.

Kimberly Moore

Board of Directors

Kimberly Moore is the mother of two children, Jarius and Khalia. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreational Therapy from East Carolina University. Kimberly worked in the mental health field for 3 years following graduation, in the school system for 7 years and has now been working in Property Management for the last 9 years.


Kimberly is also an ordained minister and serves as the National Youth President of the Church of God Founded by Jesus Christ. She also serves on the Women’s Ministry and Praise Team at her local church. Her passion is for the youth, women and the music ministry. Two of her favorite bible verses are “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well,” Psalm 139:14 and “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.” 2 Corinthians 2:14.

Eboni Harrell

Board of Directors

Eboni L. Harrell is a proud wife and mother of 7 children. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from North Carolina Wesleyan College. In 2013, Eboni ran for the Clayton Town Council and has served on the Downtown Development Board. She is founder of 7 Seed Empowerment Group, a non-profit organization designed to foster the personal and professional development goals of economically disadvantaged women. Jerry McNeill

Board of Directors

Jerry McNeill is a graduate from DeVry University, with an Associate Degree in Electronics and a Bachelor of Science degree in Technical Management. Jerry has a passion for the sport of track and field, which he actively participated in High School under the leadership and coaching of Coach David Shaw (SETC Advisor). He contended in the State Finals placing 2nd in the State in the 100-meter dash.


In his spare time, Jerry loves spending time working and fixing up cars as a hobby and enjoys spending time exploring new things with his family. He is the proud father of 1 older son and the grandfather of 5 grandchildren

ronnet purdie

Ronnet Purdie

Scholarship Coordinator

Ronnet Purdie is the daughter of the late Ronnie and Myrtle Purdie. She is a graduate of North Carolina State University where she received a Bachelor of Arts in English Education. Ronnet is also a graduate of the North Carolina A&T State University and Liberty University where she received Masters in School Administration and Christian Leadership, respectively. For the past twenty-four years, Ronnet has served as a Secondary English teacher in Cumberland, Guilford, and Alamance counties.

 

Ronnet is an ordained elder at Mt. Zion Church of God FBJC located in St. Pauls, NC. She serves as Youth President locally and the Bishop’s secretary and Education Chairperson for the organization.
